Blackberry Gemini Curve 8520 Pros Cons Review

Blackberry Curve 8520 “is also known as Blackberry Gemini 8520”

Blackberry Curve 8520 is almost a same phone as Blackberry Curve 8900 but a step below with a different body and few different features. It was announced on July 2009. One of the main differences you will notice is that this model does not have typical Trackball navigation; instead of that it has Touch-sensitive optical track pad (which means that instead of rolling Trackball for navigation, now you’ll just have to roll your thumb on the trackpad). Let’s look into other pros and cons for this model.

Blackberry Gemini Curve 8520 Pros / Advantages:

  1. It has 320 x 240 pixels, 2.64 inches screen with Full QWERTY keyboard and Touch-sensitive optical trackpad.
  2. The full QWERTY keyboard is bigger, has space within the keys and it is easier to use.
  3. Weight is only 106 g which is lighter then iphone, Blackberry Bold 9000, Blackberry Curve 8900 and Nokia E71.
  4. 256 MB internal memory and microUSB to expand it your way
  5. GPRS Class 10 (32 – 48 kbps), HSCSD, EDGE Class 10 (236.8 kbps), and Bluetooth.
  6. Wi-Fi to provide you internet where wireless is available.
  7. Blackberry OS and 512MHz processor for fast processing.
  8. 3.5 mm audio jack
  9. Dedicated music keys on the top (Track jumper next/previous, Play/pause and mute) for music lovers.
  10. More user friendly as compare to Blackberry Bold.
  11. Though camera is only 2 MP, 1600×1200 pixels, but its performance is good.

Blackberry Gemini Curve 8520 Cons / Disadvantages:

  1. No 3G.
  2. No support of desktop charging.
  3. Camera does not have flash.
  4. No GPS
  5. Battery time is not good as well. 4 hours and 30 mins of talk time and 400 hours of standby. Without 3G, it’s not impressive.

Conclusion

As per features to price ratio, this phone is great. 8 out of 10 users liked it. Its user friendly, light weighted, new Touch-sensitive optical trackpad, dedicated music keys, excellent device for messaging and emailing, browser is great just like Blackberry Curve 8900. But on the other hand, poor battery timing, no 3G support, no GPS, no camera flash are things which some users have complained about. But if we look in to the features to price ratio, buying this phone is absolutely not a bad idea.
