Conclusion:
- Very similar characteristics both cameras have almost same megapixels, same ISO speeds that will allow them to capture almost same quality pictures with almost same size of CCD sensor with same pixel density. As far quality of taking picture is concerned there will not be much difference. LCD size and quality is also similar
- Olympus stylus 9000 has edge on 10x optical wide zoom that can take pictures of far distance with ease and better flash range of 5m as compare to canon SD960, Olympus has dual image stabilization that will help taking clear (less blurry) picture even if the hand shakes a bit while taking pictures.
- Canon PowerShot SD960 IS has edge in having aperture range starting from F2.8 means while taking portrait pictures or pictures of one or few objects it will focus better and provide better results on lower F-stops. However while taking picture of a group or nature photography there might not be a difference between the pictures of both cameras. Canon SD960 IS capture videos on higher resolution than the Olympus that takes movies on lowest resolution available in most cameras. Canon SD960 IS is much lighter in weight and almost the same size as of Olympus. Canon cameras resale is better.
- After considering user reviews and details above, the decision will be yours because both cameras provide set of very competitive features, if you are more into people photography then the Canon PowerShot SD960 IS will be a better pick + canon will take bigger size videos so they will be of very good quality, However for nature shots the Olympus will work better with such a nice zoom and dual image stabilization. Olympus will take good people shots as well but as compare to canon they might not turn out better than canon SD960.
- If someone ask me which on I will buy then I will buy Canon SD960 IS because its light weight, Canon has always very friendly user interface than Olympus, canon cameras battery life is always better than the Olympus cameras and the resale value of canon cameras are much higher than the Olympus, so even after using it for 1 or 2 years I can sell it for good price. Canon cameras always offer better picture taking speed than Olympus. If Olympus 9000 was cheaper than the canon SD960 then I must have bought Olympus but with similar price I will go for Canon SD960 IS.
